Interview With Singer & Songwriter ‘WT’

Tell us a little about yourself?

Well first off, I want to thank you for taking this time and interviewing me. I was born in Pensacola Florida and lived I there for a good portion of my life. Then I started moving around a bit. First, I moved right across the state line to go to a Jesuit
College from a Catholic High School. From there I went to Japan to chase
a woman that I had fallen in love with. I was there for 3 years. Next
I returned to Florida and got a job Alabama which opened the door for me
to move to Colorado. And now I live in a small town in Colorado named Nunn.

How did you come up with your artist name?

My artist name is WT. That is what I was called when I was kid. It is the
initials of my first and middle name. Eventually, I just started being called
by my first. For me it feels like the name WT would have led me down a different
path in life. I am an Engineer but maybe WT is a singer. So, I decided to
explore the life path of WT.

How long have you been in the music industry?

That is actually a hard question to answer. I have always been very imaginative.
When I was a child, I prayed to God and asked Him to make me a creator. I believe
He gave me my wish. Creations of songs is one aspect of the creativity He gave me.
So, you could say I have been in it all my life. Or you could say maybe 6 years. That
is when I wrote a song for a friend.

How did you get started in the music business in the first place?

Well, if I mark the beginning of it with the song I wrote then it was that song. My friend
was a actually a pastor. She knew that I loved to write. And then one day she asks me
for song -actually two songs. It was a strange coincidence because I felt that I wanted to
do that. So, I wrote the songs and they just flowed. It was my gift to God but it was also
God’s gift to me. From then one I started having dreams about songs. I could only hear a line or
two of them and they would fade when I awoke. But I loved to write so I could build them
from the fragments. My friends started to notice that they were pretty catchy. So I started turning
them into songs.

How would you describe your latest single?

I think it is a fun song with kind of a spooky magical sound to it. But I will let the listeners
decide from what they feel.

When can fans expect the visuals for the single?

The video for the single is just coming out now. It should be out by the time this interview is out.

Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

There are 3 inspirations that stand out for me. Number 1 would be Michael Jackson. His music just
made you want to dance and there was a magic you could feel in it. I am sure his music often came
from his dreams. Number 2 was Prince. He was absolutely a creative genious. I remember someone described
him as oddly combining sex and religion. He was truly inspired. Number 3 would be Duran Duran.
Simon Lebon is poet of highest caliber in my view. And the members of the band can pair his mind expanding
lyrics with sounds that take you on a journey in the mind.

How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

Sometimes a melody just comes into my head and I find myself singing it. But most of the songs I write
were fragments of dreams. For example, I remember part of a dream where I was in a department store.
As I was looking around the store, the store was playing music on the loudspeakers from some
radio station. Suddenly, they announced a new song from WT. It was called “Tech Support Baby.”
I couldn’t remember but a couple lines from it. I could not remember the beat well. I could remember
that in the song he would start saying something that was going to be kinda dirty but then he would
correct himself like it was a mistake that he said the dirty lyric. It did not come off as dirty. It
came off as clever and funny and made me listen while still having a good beat. I remember the song
was about the singer bragging about the Tech Support service he would give. I remember the line…
“I’ll take that bra… I’ll take that problem off your chest. Triple X uh triple A service.
Doing you… doing what I do best.” From those lines, I crafted “Tech Support Baby.”

What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?

I feel that my songs all have an element of nostalgia to them -even if my life has no relation to them.
The songs would make an album that I would call, “Yesterday.”

Any plans of touring to promote your latest single?

None as of yet.

What did you buy with your first check off of music?

I will tell you when I get my first check.

What are must haves when you’re in the studio working?

The most important thing is that you be there. By that I mean
that you be focused. Without focus then nothing else matters.

What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Keep a notepad or recorder at hand for when ideas hit you and record them
immediately.

Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?

I do not have any plans at the moment.

What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?

The only real work I’ve done with another artist is that I’ve provided lyrics
and ideas to musicians and they have put together music for my songs. I have
done that for all my songs. I think that is why they sound so different.

Name an artist that you would love to work with?

If he were still alive then I would love to work with MJ. I would love to collaborate
on a song and a video. He would make it magical.

Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow
and content?

This is really my first song that I am putting out so we will have to see.

What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career?

I cannot write nor read music. I would like to learn that and I would like to learn
to mix music.

What’s your all time favorite song?

I am going to cop out on that question. It would depend on what I am looking for.
Is it for dancing? Is it just for mellowing out? Is it for inspiring myself?
Is it for romance? If I had 4 different women and all 4 are 10’s in beauty.
1 is white, 1 is black, 1 is asian, and one is hispanic. Which is the best beauty-wise?
You cannot answer because each beauty is different. It would moreso depend on
what you are looking for.

What was the last album you listened to?

I do not really listen to whole albums. Over my life there are maybe
30 complete albums that I have listened to. If I have to list one I would say
“White Winds” by Andreas Vollenweider. It is a very relaxing album.

How do you feel about the current state of music?

It is the way it has always been. Always changing.

Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?

Nope.

What is your main goal as far as music?

Bring enjoyment to people.

Who would you say your music relates to the most?

People who just want to take a minute out of life and be entertained.

What separates you from other artists?

No two people are the same. Everyone brings a unique perspective to
any issue. So, I would say we all approach songs differently. No two
people are going to sing a song exactly the same.

When you’re not in the studio, what do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

I love to write and to listen to music. I also love movies and my Oculus.

If you could work with any producer who would it be?

No clue.

What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Just seeing an idea go to a full song.

What is your dream venue to perform at?

Don’t have one.

What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

I like to write so it would be “Dreams Unseen” by myself. Lol.

What’s your favorite sports team and why?

My favorite team is the Dallas Cowboys football team. I was
brought up watching them.

Whose your favorite actor and their best movie?

My favorite movie of all time was “The Naked Gun.” My favorite actor
is another hard one for me. Maybe I would go with Patrick Stewart.
He is played two of my favorite characters: XMEN’s Professor X and Star
Trek’s Captain Picard.

What can we expect from you in the future?

I have several songs slated to be released. The next one you’ll see is “This War.”

Where can fans check out your music?
