
Tell us a little about yourself?
Hi I’m Zander Bleck, founding member of Mojave Grey. I’m a singer and song writer mostly, but take on many roles in this new project.
How did you come up with your artist name?
I have loved the Desert and particularly the Mojave desert from the first time I ever visited. It’s always been a grounding magical place. I have since moved part time there and wanted a name that reflected off this land. The “Grey“ represents the middle ground of genres I wanted the project to represent. It’s not rock, not electronic, not pop but somewhere all between.
How long have you been in the music industry?
I have been a professional in the music game for the last 10 years.
How did you get started in the music business in the first place?
I was signed to Interscope records as a solo artist.
How would you describe your latest single?
Flow is a deeply personal song to me that I love very much. I wrote it about moving on and letting go of resistance. I wrote it to myself.
When can fans expect the visuals for the single?
With Mojave I am making more and more cinematic expressions to accompany the music. I have been directing our videos and that is something I want to keep doing more and more.
Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
I want Mojave Grey to be a world wide known act.
How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
It’s quite different each time but usually a melody comes first and I’ll improv sing some words and surprisingly usually I’ll say one word that sticks and then the song can be crafted around that.
What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?
I have multiple singles and a full album in the pipeline in the next few months.
Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?
We’ve just started performing nationwide and I would like to continue that in a big way.
What did you buy with your first check off music?
I bought a house!
What are must haves when your in the studio working?
Good vibes. Good people. Flat water and sparkling water. A good cup of coffee and a view.
What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
“Zander no matter how big you get, you will never ever feel like you really made it. Enjoy the ride “.
Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?
Yes, we have a single with Avi snow coming out this summer whom I am a big fan of.
What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?
I’ve been exceptionally lucky working with some of the biggest names in music history. From Mutt Lange, RedOne, Holly Knight, to many others.
Name an artist(s) that you would love to work with?
Max martin.
Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
I would say the lyrics.
What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc…)
I think I need to be better at asking for help.
What’s your all-time favourite song?
La femme d’argent by air.
What was the last album you listened to?
Stan Getz girl from Ipanema.
Your favourite artist of all time and why?
Coldplay. I don’t think they get nearly the credit for that astonishing output and quality of music they have put out over last 20 years.
Whose your favourite five artists right now?
Gidge, Coldplay, Washed out, Mojave Grey, Bug black delta.
In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
I guess Coldplay again. Just masterful.
Who have been some of your favourite artists that you’ve been able to work with?
Same answer as above.
How do you feel about the current state of music?
It’s interesting. In a lot of ways there is more opportunity than ever but it’s also trickier than ever to break through. Need a hell of a lot more than just music to break through.
Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?
The Grammys.
What is your main goal as far as music?
Travel the world inspiring thousands with stories and songs.
Who would you say your music relates to the most?
I think dreamers and romantics who love nature and like getting lost.
What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)
I think we are a unique blend of different talents. I really want to create a new genre.
When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
I love taking photos. Hiking. Traveling. Being inspired.
If you could work with any producer who would it be?
Mac martin.
What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?
Surviving the industry and still making music I love.
What is your dream venue to perform at?
Red rocks and MSG.
What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?
I am reading the sun also rises by hemmingway.
What’s your favourite sports team and why?
I follow Derek road religiously and follow any team he’s on.
Whose your favourite actor or actress and their best movie?
Bale, Pitt, DiCaprio.
Name someone famous who inspires you and why?
Chris martin.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I think quite a bit. This next chapter I have extremely high expectations for.
