Interview With Rap Artist ‘Liddy Mechelle’

Tell us a little about yourself?

First thing first my name Liddy Mechelle I’m a 29-year-old Mother and artist. Besides making music I am very family orientated, I have a need to be creative I hate basic and I’m driven to help the youth in my community by all means.

How did you come up with your artist name? 

My artist’s name was originally a joke between me and two friends that I hung out with in high school every day. I was in the 10th grade. It really makes sense when you think about it because my first name is Melinda and my middle name is Mechelle Liddy Mechelle it fits me well.

How long have you been in the music industry? 

I don’t really consider myself being in the music industry I’m just a independent woman showing the world my world.

How did you get started in the music business in the first place? 

I had doubts that anybody would listen to my music even though I’ve been writing since I was child. After I had my daughter and ended my relationship with my childhood sweetheart and father of my child I decided to get serious with my music. I had and still have a lot to talk about its always been more about expressing myself than business.

How would you describe your latest single? 

I recently dropped an album called “Blk Girl” I released three singles from the album each single describes me in a different way.

When can fans expect the visuals for the single?

I have already released all three visuals and I plan on releasing more before the year is up.

Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

My inspirations in the music industry are Erykah Badu and Eminem.

How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?  

Honestly, I go off vibes. Everything is a vibe if the vibe isn’t write than I cant write.

What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one? 

The concept behind my newly project “Blk Girl” is very personal I originally just wanted my family and friends to respect my craft, but it became a more than that. The ending concept is wanting respect from the world for myself and black women.

Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

As of now I am going to go wherever God takes I have no plans of touring right now.

What did you buy with your first check off music?

Music hasn’t given me a check my hustle has. I use my platform to sell merch and whatever else I can make profitable.

What are must haves when your in the studio working?

In the studio I must have water and peace. I don’t like open sessions.

What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Be careful who you do business with.

Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?

It really depends.

What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?

I had the pleasure to work with Kurupt (DPGC) And C.M.L. It was really a blessing to work with them both because they both come from the same struggle I did.

Name an artist(s) that you would love to work with?  

Anyone that would love to work with me.

Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

I would say the lyrical flow and content.

What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc…)

Better marketing, networking and include dance routines in my performances.

You can’t f*** with Queen Bee – Lil Kim

What was the last album you listened to?

My own Blk Girl – Liddy Mechelle

Your favourite artist of all time and why?

Erykah Badu, I love her because she is a free spirit she has boundaries in the way she expresses herself.

Whose your favourite five artists right now?

Nicki Minaj & Nipsey Hussle – And pretty much everybody underground I don’t listen to many mainstream artist.

In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Jay Z ; His whole kingdom he built from the ground up is everything a kid from the ghetto wishes for. He made it out.

Who have been some of your favourite artists that you’ve been  able to work with? 

Everybody I’ve worked has been great they all are my favourites.

How do you feel about the current state of music? 

I feel like music is missing the real pain, the real struggle and the realness period. Its only because the faces that are mainstreamed don’t know substance, they only show gimmicks.

Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?

I don’t care for the award shows I want to perform at the Super bowl

What is your main goal as far as music?

I want my music to reach an audience that will appreciate my story and message. Which will lead to generational wealth for my family.

Who would you say your music relates to the most?

All the people from the struggle and people who just love good music.

What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

What makes me different from other artists is I am raw and there is no one writing my music.

When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

I like to hang out with my daughter when she is around or find time for the man in my life.

If you could work with any producer who would it be?

I would like to work with Mustard.

What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

My biggest highlight thus far is My feature and visual with Westcoast Legend Kurupt.

What is your dream venue to perform at?

My dream Venue is to perform at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

I’ve been writing so much I cant remember.

What’s your favourite sports team and why?

My favourite is the Lakers. I am a Laker fan because once you’re a Laker you die a Laker.

Whose your favourite actor or actress and their best movie?

My favourite Actor is Denzel , and he has to may good movies.

Name someone famous who inspires you and why?

Beyoncé inspires me. She so private and never flinches.

What can we expect from you in the future?

You can expect great things you’re going to have to pay attention to find out.
