
Tell us a little about yourself?
I am a recording artist and songwriter born and raised in Brooklyn NY. I grew up singing in church with my family then eventually went on to sing R&b music. I also went to school for computer science and obtained a degree in computer information systems. I have been doing music professionally for over 10 years now and have worked with Dj Khaled, French Montana.
How did you come up with your artist name?
Nathaniel is my real name. I added “The Great” when I felt like I’ve reached the pinnacle of my craft and conquered my sound.
How long have you been in the music industry?
Over 10 years.
How did you get started in the music business in the first place?
I grew up singing in church, then me and my brothers started singing r&b songs around the house.
How would you describe your latest single?
My latest single “Cash Out” is about achieving your goals and cashing out on your dreams.
When can fans expect the visuals for the single?
The video is out now on YouTube and just hit 1 million views.
Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
Musiq Soulchild, Jay z and Usher.
How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
I usually tap into the emotion that developed due to a situation I went through. This allows the music to come from a real place.
What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?
My next project is called Aquarius which is my sign. This album is going to be a hard r&b project. I’m going to the essence of who I am.
Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?
Once things open back up fully, absolutely.
What did you buy with your first check off music?
I paid off my college loan.
What are must haves when your in the studio working?
I don’t need anything but the mic and headphones.
What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
The best advice was to learn the business. Not to get so caught into the music, that I don’t know what’s happening in the background.
Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?
Yes, I will, I actually have a song with my idol, Musiq Soulchild.
What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?
I have worked with French Montana, DJ Khaled, Pusha T, LL Cool J, Wu Tang and a few others. The most interesting collaboration was with Wu Tang. I was called into the studio one night to come up with a hook on one of their singles. The song ended up being the leading single on their album “A Better Tomorrow”.
Name an artist(s) that you would love to work with?
I would like to work with Usher and Jay Z. Two artists that I highly respect.
Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
I think it’s 50/50. I try my best to create a perfect relationship between the beat and the words.
What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc…)
I would like to evolve in all avenues possible.
What’s your all-time favourite song?
That’s a hard one. Just friends by Musiq Soulchild is definitely one of them.
What was the last album you listened to?
Last album I actually listened to was Drake “CLB”.
Your favourite artist of all time and why?
Favourite of all time would be Musiq Soulchild because he was the first artists who’s albums I learned word for word.
Whose your favourite five artists right now?
Musiq, Jay Z, Usher, Chris Brown and Nas.
In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
In my genre of R&b I have to say Rihanna.
How do you feel about the current state of music?
I think real music is coming back. Artists are starting to focus on the quality of music again.
Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?
The Grammy’s.
What is your main goal as far as music?
My main goal is to leave behind music that can change the way people feel.
What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)
What makes me different is how all of my music comes from my perspective and experience through my eyes.
When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
e with my family during my downtime. Playing basketball and working out are also some of my past times.
If you could work with any producer who would it be?
I would like to work with Mike Will.
What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?
The biggest highlight of my career was working designing my own mobile app.
What is your dream venue to perform at?
I would like to perform at Madison Square Garden.
What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?
The last book I read was “The Power Of Now” by Ekhart Tole.
What’s your favourite sports team and why?
The NY Knicks because I ride with my city.
Whose your favourite actor or actress and their best movie?
My favourite actor is Denzel Washington and Training Day is in my top 5.
Name someone famous who inspires you and why?
Jay Z because we came from the same place. To see where he has been able to go, give me nothing but hope.
