How did you come up with your artist name?

It’s a play on my initials which is T.A.Y and my birthday month which is may.

How long have you been in the music industry?

I’ve been writing poetry since grade school which evolved to rap, I’ve been taking it seriously since 2012.

How did you get started in the music business in the first place?

I knew i was talented and i got tired of hearing all the same music on the radio, knowing i was different i decided to make music myself and see where it went.

How would you describe your latest single?

It makes a statement lyrically and separates me from  the other female artists who are predominantly running the rap game right now. It also highlights the fact that I’ve given so much to Colorado (time , talent, ect) my home state and still gain more support from people not in Colorado.

When can fans expect the visuals for the single?

I’m focusing on my album instead of visuals at the moment.

Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Nas, J Cole, Queen Latifa, Lauren Hill. Mostly I admire lyricism.

How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

I enjoy wordplay so sometimes a word will come to my mind and my creativity will start manifest that word into different directions creating a concept for a song/album.

What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?

It’s going to be called ‘Emotionally Naked’ highlighting some of the personal struggles and emotions I’ve endured through love, being a woman in the industry, and hardships.

Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

Maybe in the future but it’s not my primary focus as of now.

What did you buy with your first check off music?

Beats and studio time.

What are must haves when your in the studio working?

Good energy is most important.

What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

To not care what people think or say because if you start to listen to them then you’re living for them and not yourself.

Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?

None that come to mind.

What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?

Young fait and it’s always a good time.

Name an artist(s) that you would love to work with?

Nas.

Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

My lyricism of course.

What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc…)

Probably just my production rate as far as producing content more regularly.

What’s your all-time favourite song?

I’m torn between Nas -Rewind and Jay Z -Song Cry.

What was the last album you listened to?

Drake – Certified Lover Boy.

Your favourite artist of all time and why?

Myself because if i idolize anyone besides me then they might influence my sound, i like being original.

Whose your favourite five artists right now?

J Cole, Eminem, Young Fait, T.I And TeaYaMay of course.

In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

I can’t answer that because all the artists who are influential and successful are influencing things i don’t exactly support. A lot of artists are successful but may have not done influential things to achieve success.

Who have been some of your favourite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Lerae Compton, Young Fait and the whole New West movement.

How do you feel about the current state of music?

It’s great yet it has its downfalls as well. It’s like a painting that’s beautiful on the outside and very creative yet it has darker a subliminal and an ulterior motive behind it.

Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?

No not specifically. I’m just happy for any opportunity music brings my way no matter the magnitude of the show or event. I’m always appreciative.

What is your main goal as far as music?

My main goal is to show the world that lyrically conscious females do exist. Every female rapper doesn’t have to be ratchet or sell sex to be successful.

Who would you say your music relates to the most?

People that are more awake and aware of the world around them. People who are open minded and still value great music.

What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

The fact that I have substance, I’m humble, and not egotistical. Those qualities alone are hard to come by in this industry.

When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Play video games or spend time with my family. Family time is always a must.

If you could work with any producer who would it be?

JetsonMade is pretty talented, I’d definitely like to work with him.

What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Winning a competition for Colorado’s Favourite Musician which was a vote based competition.

What is your dream venue to perform at?

I would love to perform at Red Rocks in Colorado.

What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

A child called it by Dave Pelzer. It was definitely one of my favourites. I do actually enjoy audio books, they allow me to multitask and or relax.

What’s your favourite sports team and why?

I’m not really a sports girl.

Whose your favourite actor or actress and their best movie?

Denzel Washington because any movie he’s in is most likely a good movie and i liked training day, it was a classic.

Name someone famous who inspires you and why?

I’d say Eminem because he’s an example that no matter how bad your childhood was you can still be successful. Success is making a better way for yourself regardless of your circumstances.

What can we expect from you in the future?

You gotta keep up with my music to find out haha but just know anything i drop will have substance and be great.
