Tell us a little about yourself?
Let’s see… I spent the first part of my life in Harlem NYC, but I’ve lived in a lot of places. I’m down to earth, love my family, and making music!
How did you come up with your artist name?
My name is Jasmine. A lot of people have called me Jazzy over the years. I decided to give it a little flare and spell it differently, but it still has 7 letters like Jasmine.
How long have you been in the music industry?
I officially released my 1st single “Why You Do” independently in March of this year.
How did you get started in the music business in the first place?
I’ve always dreamed about being an artist. I kind of thought it was over for me, but I do my research and make as much magic as I can!
How would you describe your latest single?
“This Love” is a song about being tired of trying and hoping for better. I think a lot of people can relate to the feeling of wanting to give up on a relationship they feel just isn’t working, anymore.
When can fans expect the visuals for the single?
I am currently working on 2 videos, actually. A late video for my 1st single, as well as this one. There isn’t a specific date yet, but SOON!
Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
My whole musical life has been inspired by greats like Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, etc. There are people like Missy Elliot and Mary J Blige, that I love and respect for their storytelling… I can go on and on…
How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
Usually, I listen to beats until one jumps out at me and I find myself humming a melody, and I’m like “Yeah, I have to write to this”! With every song, whatever the music makes me feel is where my direction is with the song.
What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?
I’m working on my EP right now. It’s really just about love. I pretty much write from my experiences, and I have a lot to express. Haven’t titled it, yet.
Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?
I’m looking into different venues to perform at. So far, there’s been nothing but great feedback on my music, and I just wanna continue sharing it with the world!
What did you buy with your first check off music?
To be honest, I haven’t had a big check YET, but when I do… I’m sure it’ll be something nice!
What are must haves when your in the studio working?
When I’m in the studio, all I need is good vibes and water. Honestly.
What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
No matter what… Keep doing what you do and don’t give up!
Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?
I would love to start working with other artists, and expanding my fan base!!
What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?
I’ve recorded with ESM RYDA. We’ve been talking about doing a project together… we’ll see. I know it would be dope!
Name an artist(s) that you would love to work with?
I definitely wanna work with Bruno Mars… I think he’s great! Ummm… I also would love to work with Cardi B! People always say they feel like we’d be really cool!
Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
I think people love my music for the words and melodies. I try to write about things I know other people will feel.
What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc…)
Production always gets better and better as an artist works with different people that learn their sound. I could definitely improve my stage presence by performing more. I’m actually really shy. I used to make YouTube videos and perform at open mics under a different name to get out of my shyness. Overall, everything gets better the more comfortable you are, I think.
What’s your all-time favourite song?
I really do not have one. I just LOVE too many songs lol
What was the last album you listened to?
Summer Walker’s new album
Your favourite artist of all time and why?
This is something else that’s very hard for me. Maybe if I had a favourite song, that artist would probably be the answer, but again, I just love music way too much to have favourites. Those questions are almost like asking a parent who’s their favourite child! Lol
Whose your favourite five artists right now?
Oh, man! Right now my regular rotation includes Myself (of course), ESM RYDA (also indie), Drake, Megan Thee Stallion, and Silk Sonic.
In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
This is a very good question. I think if we’re gonna talk about influence and success TODAY, Beyoncé.
Who have been some of your favourite artists that you’ve been able to work with?
I’m just getting my toes in the mix… hopefully, I’ll be fortunate enough to work with everyone who would actually wanna work with me!!
How do you feel about the current state of music?
I can’t say that a lot of music speaks to my soul the way it used to. I find that I like more of the music than the lyrics these days. Here and there a song pops up that I HAVE to have in my Playlist, but for the most part, it’s just not the same.
Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?
All of ’em!!
What is your main goal as far as music?
I just want people to be able to vibe out and know that what I’m singing is real life, and while we might go through some fucked up shit, it’s a lot of good things about love, too! Want to inspire people to live and love loud and strong.
Who would you say your music relates to the most?
I think my music will mostly gravitate towards the ones that love the hardest. I don’t think age is a factor when it comes to what we feel. But mostly, everyone that loves real R&B, should definitely love my music!
What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)
I’ll just say I don’t know too many artists that have lived a life like mine. Aside from the love stuff I write about, I have a very deep story about me. As far as this music, people have tried to convince me that I should try to make more “trendy” music. The thing is, I barely listen to that, so how could I write it? I say that to say, I speak up for myself. I like what I like, and I know myself better than anyone else, so it’s not like someone can just tell me to do certain things to “fit in”. I’m always gonna be Just Jazziie!
When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
I love to watch movies with my hunnii. Play games. Shop. Oh, and I love to cook, cuz I love to eat!!
If you could work with any producer who would it be?
I’ve always wanted to work with Pharrell.
What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?
Just being able to put out a single that has been received so well was amazing to me!
What is your dream venue to perform at?
I would love to perform at Madison Square Garden. Pretty big to perform there being from NY!
What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?
I don’t even remember, but I do know it was about a study done on generation z!
What’s your favourite sports team and why?
I’m a NY Yankees girl… cuz why not??
Whose your favourite actor or actress and their best movie?
I’m gonna say, Gerard Butler. I haven’t seen one movie with him that I didn’t like.
Name someone famous who inspires you and why?
Mary J Blige. I’ve heard stories of some of the things she’s gone through, and over the years, she’s really been one of the artists whose music has helped me realize it’s always a chance that things can get better.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Of course, more music!! I’m also working on a brand that I feel can & will be so much more than clothing!
Where can the fans check out for your music?
My music is streaming on all major platforms. (Apple/iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, etc.) So, wherever you listen to music, you can find me! My IG, Twitter, and Tiktok are all @_only1jazziie_
