Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m an English artist, musician, songwriter residing in France where I’ve been living for the past 30 years or so.
How did you come up with your artist name?
“Kris” has always been my stage name with all the bands I’ve played with in the past and I added my surname “Jenkins” because my music distributor said that “Kris” on it’s own would get lost in searches on streaming sites.
How long have you been in the music industry?
I did my first gig at the age of 12 in 1987 whilst still living in England so that makes it 35 years.
How did you get started in the music business in the first place?
My father was a singer/musician/entertainer so there were always instruments lying around the house and one day when I was 12 I tried a guitar and a bass guitar and 3 months later I was playing in a band and playing live gigs which gave me the best buzz imaginable and also a bit of cash in my pocket. There’s no looking back after you’ve tasted that.
How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
A lot of ideas come to me when I’m doing something else such as walking to the shops or cooking. When I’ve got an idea stuck in my head I grab an acoustic guitar and try to piece it together before firing up my home studio and then I record what I’ve got and let it evolve in my head some more before coming back to it and finishing it.
What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?
I’ve just finished a 12 track album called “And You’re Who?” which is going to be released on all streaming sites on the 13th of January 2023 and is already available on Bandcamp. It’s not a concept album but all the lyrical themes are about wondering who we really are or what perception others have of us or what we want to become etc.. The music is very energetic rock; power pop and the vocals are either distorted or crystal clear and with tons of vocal harmonies.
What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
Make music that I want to hear and not what I think other’s want to hear.
Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
For the overall energy and the melodies that you can hum along to.
Your favourite artist of all time and why?
“Queen” because they could write and play any style and it was always good
What is your main goal as far as music?
To reach as many ears worldwide as possible.
Whatβs the biggest highlight of your career thus far?
I’ve done some big gigs in the past in front of several thousands of people with different bands I’ve played in and that’s when it hits you that you’ve been doing something right all along.
What can we expect from you in the future?
If my latest album release creates a bit of a buzz then more of the same.
Where can the fans check out for your music?
My music is available on all streaming platforms search ‘Kris Jenkins’
