Interview With North Carolina Independent R&B Artist ‘PrinceKidd’

Tell us a little about yourself?

I am an independent R&B artist from Kannapolis, North Carolina. Music is my life.

How did you come up with your artist name? 

I’m the oldest and only boy out of six sisters. I like to look at my family as royalty so with my dad being the king, I’m the Prince of the palace and the “Kidd” comes from the type of heart I have.

How long have you been in the music industry? 

2 years

How did you get started in the music business in the first place? 

This all started as a healing process to release sadness, anger and resentment.

How would you describe your latest single? 

My latest single is a love song called “Holding On”. It is dedicated to myself because there was a time where there I felt like real love wasn’t meant for me. Later on I told myself that it wasn’t true and it would happen if I just held on. To all my listeners, It is meant to dedicate to there real true love.

When can fans expect the visuals for the single?

I am planning a music video for this in the early spring time this year of 2023.

Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Usher, Chris Brown, Jhene Aiko, Eminem.

How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?  

Anytime I write a song there is always a back story. Sometimes it is my own story or it is the story of someone that is around me. I would also go along with the emotion of the beat as well.

What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one? 

The project I am currently working on is the opposite of the latest single. It’s about being “Loved Wrong”.

Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

Yes, I have a few shows coming soon. Definitely have to tap into my socials for the upcoming dates.

What did you buy with your first check off music?

A bundle of beats from my producer. Shout out to SHAWTYCHRISBEATS.

What are must haves when your in the studio working?

There is really only one thing that I have to have when I’m in my studio and that is to have my VIBES on the right frequency.

What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

To always be myself and never allow anyone or anything to change ME!!!!!

Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?

I am always open to making some magic with other talented artist. The door is open.

What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?

I have a feature with my big bro/best friend NØMIDDƁENÆME. It is always a vibe when we get in the studio. The song is called “Closer” and it’s available on all streaming platforms.

Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

I try to make it both. But my lyrical content is what people look for the most.

What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc…)

I feel like I need improvement on production, vocal range, marketing and promotions.

Your favourite artist of all time and why?

Usher, is the favorite artist of all time because he is the reason for the R&B. When I was growing up that’s all I wanted to do was sing and dance like him.

Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Inayiah, Megan Thee Stallion, Cupcakke.

In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Chris Brown, because he is still on his grind and hasn’t stopped.

Who have been some of your favourite artists that you’ve been able to work with? 

I have worked with a few talented artist on BandLab. Check me out on there.

How do you feel about the current state of music? 

I feel like my genre needs to be woken up a little more, but that depends on the people.

Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?

Yes, the VMAs and Grammys.

What is your main goal as far as music?

To be able to touch a soul through my story and be the voice for those that feel they don’t have one.

Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Usher.

What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

The way I delivery the story and my sound is different from everyone else.

When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Play Mortal Kombat (Xbox or PS).

If you could work with any producer who would it be?

T-Pain

What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Being able to make money from my music.

What is your dream venue to perform at?

Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia

What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

To be honest, I don’t read many books anymore but the last actual book I read was the manual to FL Studio.

What’s your favourite sports team and why?

Dallas Cowboys.

Whose your favourite actor or actress and their best movie?

Taraji P Henson – Acrimony

Name someone famous who inspires you and why?

Taraji P Henson. She has been acting for so long and she followed her dream when people told her she would never make it. Now look at HER.

What can we expect from you in the future?

You can definitely expect more vibes coming and seeing me grow in this business.
