Interview With Rap Artist ‘Doll-Z’

Tell us a little about yourself?

Hey! I hope you are doing well and it’s pretty good weather out here. My name is Sonal Joshi stage name (Doll-Z that soon changes to Alpha). I come from India and I like to work for change on a daily basis through whatever I do hence I do that through my music as well. I don’t believe in tomorrow whatever we have is today.

How did you come up with your artist name?

Doll-Z came up because I use to love dolls a lot and Z is an alter ego. But recently I have realised that Alpha is a perfect name for me as it describes my personality pretty well. I came up with the name Alpha on the basis of my behaviour and nature.

How long have you been in the music industry?

It’s been sometime but professionally as a full time rapper it’s been 2 years.

How did you get started in the music business in the first place?

I always knew I wanted to do music and so one good day I decided to quit my job and get on this adventure for real because I wanted to tell my story. Including this Watching Eminem on internet has been a real motivation. A huge amount of credit for me being a rapper goes to his existence on earth.

How would you describe your latest single?

My latest single is Red man 80 barz challenge. It’s a piece of art to describe my feelings towards rappers who make no sense and have nothing to say through their music. Plus it showcases of my skills and how I rap .

When can fans expect the visuals for the single?

Fans can expect an HD music video going further.

Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Eminem, Tupac, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, Wu tang. Mostly I go for old school rappers. Considering nee school content I like Hopsin , Dax and G -Eazy.

How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

There is no such specific process that I can really talk about.

What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if  working on one?

The concept would be mostly my story.

Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

Yes I have plans. Let’s see how things turn out and how much I can afford.

What did you buy with your first check off music?

I haven’t had any cheques as of now because I was not focusing on the monetisation side of it. But I have had opportunities that would provide me the same . Hence I haven’t bought anything until I recently got hitched with a side hustle. And I bought some clothes that I needed for my videos. Only requirements (basic) but that doesn’t mean I am not materialistic in-fact I am very materialistic sometimes but it’s an “on and off relationship”.

What are must haves when your in the studio working?

A Good mic, Sound proofing panels, some basic led lights , sound absorbers so that I can trip lol. And Obviously A good audio Interface, monitor speakers, books and a bean bag! A chair and a table and a huge notice board. Green Tea if possible because I am planning to switch from tea to green tea. And DRUMS cuz I never played them but I know I am good at it.

Posters according to my mood and some Vincent Van Gogh paintings . Some Eminem posters is a necessity because that is the only Person that I talk to when I am alone đŸ˜€

When I am writing I need to be alone so I think my space is a thing i would definitely need.

What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

I followed my heart and I think that’s hard and I am grateful that I have the courage to do that.

Eminem is the one because it’s hard to be a story teller and to bring that drama in through verbal choirs . Moreover to make your own self as a SUBJECT is definitely a hard thing to do. Coming out as a successful-rapper in this genre requires guts honesty  and a hell lot of strength of character.
