Interview With Singer Songwriter & Rap Artist ‘Kataya’

Tell us a little about yourself?

My Name is Kataya. Kataya Casanova to some. I was born in Atlanta, Ga. I found a love for singing at the age of 7 while in church. Although I didn’t write my first song until I was 18. Music soon became my escape as well as my way to fully express myself. I also Self Mix & Master, along with a few other business ventures.

How did you come up with your artist name?

This was a high school nickname because I was always known for having very strong energy that anyone can fall in love with.

How long have you been in the music industry?

6 Years.

How did you get started in the music business in the first place?

When I graduated high school I decided to give myself time to find myself & the better I got at writing songs & the more people that started to listen inspired me to keep going. So, here we are. 6 years later.

How would you describe your latest single?

All That’s on my mind is my latest single. I would describe it as realizing self-worth & intuition is important. It’s a song about self-love & boundaries.

When can fans expect the visuals for the single?

This visual is going to be very relatable. Everyone will find a way to connect. So it’s soon to come.

Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

There are so many. I grew up listening to a lot of music that was before my time so most of my influences are people like Tupac, Aaliyah, New Edition & TLC. But, if we are being more up to date, Beyonce of course, Kanye West really inspires me, Russ is amazing, & J.cole is out of this world. I just love legendary people doing legendary things. I’m inspired by greatness.

How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

Most of my singing songs are from experience. Those typically take longer to write because maybe I need to finish going through whatever it is that I’m going through at the time to finish writing about it. These songs are definitely more authentic & easier to resonate with. Rap songs are a different ball game. I can take 4 Henny shots & rap about ANYTHING. The options are endless.

What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?

I am working on a project. The name is to be announced but, right now we are referencing it as FGSV1. This project is definitely my baby because it shows growth mentally. It’s me showing my versatility and me stamping myself in this music game.

How do you feel about the current state of music?

I love that anyone can become financially free off of it.
