Interview With Miami Rap Artist ‘Macho Perez’

Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m Born and Raised in Newark, NJ (AKA Brick City) but that cold stuff is for the birds. I live an hour south of Miami in the Florida Keys. I’m a Bilingual Spoken Word/CHH Artist/Chef/Respiratory Therapist/Auto&Marine Detailer. Some doors close for others to open. And whatever Door my God opens, no man can close. I was a Gangbanger and now I’m in the juvenile facilities in Miami – Dade and Broward County speaking life into those young men. My experiences allow me to reach folks other folks can’t reach. Music is cool and all, but what you really doing. What are they going to say about you when it’s all said and done. I wanna hear “ Well done my good and faithful servant “

How did you come up with your artist name?

Macho is a common Puerto Rican nickname. I know about 37 Machos. All of us are good looking except like two. Drugs are bad.

Honestly I started making music in like 2011 we sold 10,000 copies in Orlando the summer of 2012. I was riding a bmx with a book bag full of cds. 5$ a pop we paid 0.50 cents a copy. That was my start.

My latest single…America. This one is almost a call for accountability. As a whole America needs to do better. I take great pride in being an American. I’m also in a state of grievance because the America I grew up loving and being proud of almost doesn’t exist anymore.
